James yarosh A Family Portrait May-4-29

james

“A Family Portrait” May-4-29 with May 7 Reception Hours:  After a 10-year hiatus as an artist, James Yarosh will take on the multifaceted theme of family relationships within the human experience in “A Family Portrait” to be presented at The Art Alliance Artist Co-op Gallery in Red Bank as the gallery’s May 2011 window exhibit.

Yarosh, who began his career as an artist exhibiting and selling his art throughout his twenties while managing galleries in NJ and NY, put his own work on hold when he opened his own gallery, James Yarosh Associates in Holmdel.  As he immersed himself in growing the business to national recognition, building an international clientele, and working as a published designer, at the age of 40 Yarosh decided it was time to, once again, return to his love of painting. After renovating his home to accommodate a studio, Yarosh began an intense period of art study by traveling abroad more than a dozen times to visit the world’s greatest museums for inspiration and to rediscover the meaning of being a great artist.

"Actually, I had no interest in showing my art yet, as I am so humbled to begin again with a maturity and greater life experience to bring to my personal art. However, the Art Alliance of Red Bank, an artist co-op that I have belonged to since I was 18, knowing I had begun painting again, asked if I would accept their invitation for me to display in their windows for the month of May, and I decided it would be a fitting way to begin again.  After dedicating my 30’s to art advocacy and the representation of world renown artists in my own gallery,   I am beginning my 40’s with an expanded world view, and with the subject of family, a complicated and universal topic to explore as I begin to share my own artistic conversation,” said Yarosh.

In an interview and critique of Yarosh’s “A Family Portrait” collection, artist and former art critic Tova Navarra describes Yarosh’s metamorphosis as an artist:

“With careful strokes and warm colors, Yarosh has successfully discovered [his own] voice. While many of his earlier works were wildly dramatic, his new portrait series starting with the artist's most accessible model blends maturity…tenderness and seriousness.”

“Together the painting(s) become almost like donor altar panels in a Renaissance cathedral. Yarosh masters the intimidation of producing grassroots images coupled with the wonderment of his medium. Fine paintings, easily as worthy of museum walls as of the walls of the family home.”
--Tova Navarra, Artist and Former Art Critic, Asbury Park Press
