BAYONET FARM ART & MUSIC FESTIVAL –
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 20,  2008

Gallery owner James Yarosh will serve as the awards judge for this year’s plein air competition and juried art show on September 20th at Bayonet Farm. The show will be a part of the annual Arts & Music Festival from noon to 5 PM that day.

The land was first claimed in land titles dating from 1677. It was a working farm through the 19th and early 20th centuries. On returning from Hollywood in 1936, Philadelphia-born American Express heiress, Laura Harding, bought the central 60-acre parcel. During a renovation Ms. Harding discovered a small bayonet stuck in the chimney of the main house, and named the property for the weapon.

Ms. Harding had acted with Katherine Hepburn at the Berkshire Playhouse. After that the two remained lifelong friends, and in later years Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were frequent guests at Bayonet Farm.

Spotlight Artist - Joyce Anastasia Urbanski

Joyce Anastasia Urbanski has been a painting for over 40 years with over 15 one person gallery exhibits to her credit.  One of James Yarosh Associates Gallery’s most popular artists since 1996, Urbanski's  painterly and plein-air oil paintings are both bold and colorfully complicated.  Highlighted here, and offered for the first time for individual sale, are a still life series entitled ‘Saturation’.   The collection of eight monochromatic still life portraits represent a thoroughly modern series of work that also includes supporting studies.

Marissa Paternoster - Works on Paper

Prepare to be thrust into a world of pain.  The subtle, casual works of Marissa Paternoster manage to harbor every insecurity the prototypical young American has to offer.  Her work deals with archetypical memories, confessionals, the mysteries of parents, and the faults of families.  Unnerving as the material may be, they are audacious testaments to honesty, truth, and transparency.  While the work is loaded, the jokingly informal production of pieces may assist the viewer in alleviating the so-called “world of pain” Marissa seeks to construct.  So, prepare to suffer – and get ready to enjoy it.   Shown right: " Smart- Funny- Talented"

Vachagan Narazyan

Epic and intimate paintings are arguably amongst the most important works to surface and still develop from the repression of the former Soviet Union. With a style blending old-world images with futuristic visions, the artist creates a world of mystery and enchantment for the viewer to explore. Narazyan, born 1957 in Kislovodsk, Russia and currently residing in the Ukraine, graduated Kharkiv Art Institute and developed a style underground, now coined romantic fantasy, as part of the historical Non-conformist Art Movement. Today, the artist's work is represented in museum and private collections around the world including the Zimmerli Art Museum's Dodge Collection. Our Gallery is proud to offer the paintings of Narazyan's artistic genius.
