So much time in our lives is spent waiting.

How many hours have been spent waiting for the right time, the perfect moment, waiting for someone to arrive or some event to occur? Being patient, waiting our turn, just wait and see. Actual rooms are built for waiting.

In this collection of work I have used the motif of a simple yellow chair to represent waiting in it's many forms and through this imagery I have attempted to address personal waiting that has shaped my experiences. The quiet chaos of a waiting room with individuals all waiting with a similar purpose. The frustration felt as a seemingly insignificant part of a larger whole, waiting for someone else larger and more controlling to make a change. The age old quandary of waiting for the perfect romance, did you wait too long, or not long enough?

A professor once told me that you never accomplish your goals sitting in a chair or waiting for inspiration, no matter how comfortable the chair may be, the first move forward is to get out of the chair.

These pieces are a combination of oil on canvas, lino block prints, fused plastic, antique book pages, graphite sketched on canvas, hand stitching and machine stitching.

Michal Sparks debuts her first collection of fine art paintings with a series of fauvist style works featuring the local subject of 'Old Route 34". Ms. Sparks, Colts Neck NJ, is a nationally acclaimed illustrator and textile designer. Also on display will be the original watercolors of her many popular table-top patterns including "Old Estate".
